HFB PROJECTILE

This Hemi-spherical Flat Based projectile is very close in shape to the large calibre soft nosed big-game bullets made by Hornady, Woodleigh, Barnes, Nosler and Speer amongst others.

The drag function of this projectile is not even close to that of the venerable G1, or any other sharp pointed projectile. So for blunt nosed big game bullets, this is the shape to use to calculate drops and velocities at any range further out than point-blank.

Second order polynomial functions were fitted to the drag data to create the drag functions used in the program. They are listed below:

drag equation

DRAG FUNCTION TABLE a b c
400 < V < 1100 ft/sec. 3.7862E-4 -0.4168 118.9
1100 < V < 1200 ft/sec. 2.0000E-4 0.0940 -225
V > 1200 ft/sec. 1.9073E-4 -5.258E-2 -32.1
